Washi Tape Clipboard

Earlier this year, I joined Team Washi and made a super cute washi tape keyboard.  This project left me with plenty of washi tape and the desire to do more with it.  Clipboards seemed to be a popular thing to cover with washi tape.  So I jumped on that band wagon as well after I came up with a brilliant idea on how I would use that clipboard.

To get started, I picked up a plain clipboard at Target.

I painted it white and then covered the entire front with washi tape.  Can you tell I tried to make a design?  {It's a field of flowers with the sun shining.}

Initially, I wasn't going to do anything on the back.  But then I was inspired by all the creative quilt backs I have seen on Pinterest and decided to add some tape there as well.  I also taped around the entire edge as well.

Now about my brilliant idea - in my craft room, I use my ironing board as my base for working on sewing projects.  The ironing board was beside the bed so I would lay the pattern or instructions on the bed so I could glance at them as I worked.  But then I rearranged the room and moved the ironing board into the corner.  I hung the clipboard on the wall in that same corner and use it to hold the instructions for whatever project I am working on.

Don't you agree that is brilliant?  {Do you spy the following projects in this picture? - Scrappy Lampshade, Small Button Jars, Magazine Holders}

And when I'm not working on a project, it's a piece of art.

Magazine Holders

{Operation Organize the Craft Room}
Finally!!!  After two days locked in the craft room {I was allowed out to eat, sleep, and to watch a movie} I have finished cleaning and organizing the craft room.  Thank goodness the weather was gray most of the weekend or I probably wouldn't have finished.  {The sun finally peaked out late Sunday afternoon but by then I was so close to finishing I couldn't give up.}  I think I'll give myself a little break before I tackle the next room for spring cleaning.  My project list has been piling up anyways so I need to do some crafting.

But back to the craft room.  In addition to the wooden box, I found these magazine holders in the back of the craft cabinet.  {I think they are from Ikea.}

I was using them but it was a bit of a pain because they were in the back so I would have to move stuff to get to them.  My plan was to make better use of a small bookshelf in the room and put these on there.  But first they needed a facelift.

The red holders are painted in Delta Ceramcoat Red Iron Oxide and the paper is Picnic Fun by echo park paper co. from the A Walk in The Park line.  The blue holder is painted with Craftsmart Robins Egg Blue {both paints I had on hand} and the paper is Blissful Day from the same line as the other.

The light was fading by the time I got the room put together so I will take pictures another day to show the holders in there new home.  I think they will like it there better than in the cabinet.

Wooden Box with Drawers

{Operation Organize the Craft Room}
I have locked myself in my craft room today and am determined to finish organizing and cleaning it.  I am taking a break now to make dinner and thought I'd make a quick post.  As I'm organizing the craft room, I am trying to stick with the storage that I have instead of buying anything new.  In my craft cabinet was this nice but boring box.

Nothing inside of it was of any interest.  I guess it was just a place to put things that didn't really have any other place to go.  It's new responsibilities will be to store miscellaneous sewing notions - velcro, buttons to cover, zippers, etc.  It was going to have to remain in the craft cabinet because space is limited elsewhere.  So, even though it wouldn't be seen, I wanted to make it fun.  I painted it with acrylic paint I had already {remember, I'm trying not to buy anything new for the room.} in the colors of Indian Turquoise, Burnt Orange, and Pure Yellow.  And then I added some paper by echo park paper co., a walk in the park - a blissful day.  {I did buy the paper.  I wanted something new and I planned on using it on several projects, like this small tool box.}

Isn't that super fun and cheerful?  And it was an easy transformation.

Small Wooden Box for Tools

{Operation Organize the Craft Room}
I am in the process of organizing my craft room and it is in disarray currently.  I need to find the time and get in there and clean it up because it is starting to get on my nerves.  I like things neat, orderly and organized so I can't believe I've left it in this state for this long.

I've rearranged storage of my beading supplies and needed to find a new place for my tools.  They were taking up only a little space in a medium storage bin so I wanted something smaller.  I had this wooden box and it was just the right size.

We got a block of aged cheddar cheese for Christmas at work in 2010 {I work for a company that is in the egg, potato, and cheese business.} and it came in this cute small wooden box.  I held onto the box thinking I could use it for something.  And finally I figured out that something.  But I wanted to dress it up a little.

Using Tree Tops scrapbook paper from echo park paper co. I covered the sides of the box.  The reverse side of the paper was green polka dots and using my cricut I cut out the letters spelling TOOLS and glued them on the box.

Simple but cute.  The best kind of project.

Cute Little Bottles for Buttons

Wow, 66 degrees here in the Twin Cities yesterday!  A record breaker for sure.  The old record was 59 degrees in 1878.

When the weather gets nice, I love getting outside and walking.  I did that yesterday but maybe I should have thought more about where I was going.

Some of the trails in the park are used for cross country skiing and therefore the snow isn't removed from them.  Oh well, it was fine if you walked carefully.

{Operation Organize the Craft Room}
When I was looking for a jar in my parents basement for my chalkboard jar project, my dad showed me these super cute little milk bottles.

He said they were in a box of stuff he bought at a sale for $3.  I knew right away I had to have them.  I even had an idea for them.

Aren't they a cute way to store buttons?

Bottle Charms

{Operation Organize the Craft Room}
2012 is the year of organization.  Okay, I may have made that up but this year I am going to organize my home, including some serious decluttering.  I have two boxes/bags ready to go to Goodwill.  Last weekend I started on my big craft cabinet where I found these from a long time ago project.

I think the idea at the time was to sell them at a craft show.  That obviously didn't happen so it is time to get rid of them.  But those charms are so pretty.  How can I use them?  Then I looked in my craft closet and saw the perfect solution.

They would be a super accent for my marker and scissor holders!  All I would need was more beads and stretch beading elastic to make them bigger.  And I already had that so I was good to go.

My favorite is the create one.  When I came across the tube of those fun and colorful beads in my boxes of beads, I knew I had to use them.  They just made me smile.

Of course, this one gave me the most problems and I blame the cup.  Unlike the other cups, which were curvy, this one gradually got smaller from top to bottom.  The first one I made was too big.  So I had to restring it.  Although the cup is not ideal and the charm sits way at the bottom, I still love it the best.  And for fun, I put a flower bead and leaf bead in the back.
